Frank Accavitti, Jr. (Democrat)
BiographyMy name is Frank Accavitti, and I've been a business owner and public servant for over two decades. With your support, I will take my record of fighting for Michigan communities to D.C. as a representative of fair trade, clean water and positive action on job creation.
I'm not in this campaign to tell you what you want to hear; I'm here to do what's right by the people of Michigan's 10th District. I believe in being honest and truthful about my policies and my beliefs, and if you support me, know that I'll be supporting those same ideals on day one in Washington, D.C. If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference-- for our families, our communities, and our country. |
Views & Positions
- Abortion: “Like many other traditional Catholics, I am personally opposed to abortion. But, I deeply believe that matters about reproduction, intimacy, relationships and contraception are in the personal realm. These are moral decisions for individuals to make for themselves. We do not need the government intruding in to those personal decisions.”
- Budget: “A better method then cutting the budget is to take in additional income. Not only by raising taxes, but by increasing the tax paying base. When we get more Americans working in good paying jobs, we will have the income our country needs to pay its bills and to provide the services needed”.
- Crime: “Mr. Accavitti does not support capital punishment for certain crimes nor does he support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders. He does support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment”.
- Economy: “Let’s encourage businesses to bring American jobs and innovation back to the United States. Additionally we need to train and secure a twenty-first century workforce. We should concentrate on education and creating high skilled workers that can provide companies with the workforce they need to compete globally. Much effort should be directed toward startup firms. Startups may only account for 3% of employment but they provide almost 20% of gross job creation. We have eager people, community colleges to provide training, and infrastructure to support every business”.
- Education: “Colleges need to be given incentives to graduate students in a nominal amount of time for a nominal amount of money. If they are intelligent enough to be educating the next generation of wage earners, they must be intelligent enough to devise methods to efficiently carry out their mission”.
- Environment/Climate Change: “I believe that human activity is contributing to climate change and I support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions”.
- Gun Control: “I believe the 2nd Amendment guarantees the right of a law-abiding citizen to keep arms for personal use. The vast majority of firearm-related injuries and deaths are perpetrated by individuals who obtain guns illegally or may not have been issued a gun legally if a more through background check were performed. The key to decreasing injuries and deaths is to use more thorough background checks, as well as current legal means of removing or keeping firearms from dangerous or unstable individuals. Honest, law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear from such a process”.
- Health Care: “The Affordable Healthcare Act should be augmented. It was a start toward fixing the problems with our healthcare system. It has provided the opportunity for many who did not have health insurance coverafe and used emergency rooms as their primary care to purchase insurance. It was always thought that the reason for increases in health care cost and insurance premiums was the coverage to the uninsured. The savings anticipated when healthcare systems reduced no-paying or slow paying patients has not materialized. We need continued work to implement and improve health care reform ensuring that our health care gets better”.
- Taxes: “The tax system should be simplified and work for all Americans with lower individual and corporate tax rates and fewer brackets. Certainly eliminating inefficient and unfair tax breaks so that the American people and businesses spend less time and less money each year filing taxes and no one can avoid their financial responsibility”.
- Jobs: “My #1 priority: More jobs for the people of the 10th District. As Congressman, I will lead the District into the 21st Century by expanding high-speed internet, natural gas line extension and conversion to 3-phase electric service. These efforts will benefit farmers and businesses throughout the district. Our utility infrastructure can improve. Connecting citizens to the global internet with fiber-optics will foster small business start ups and give folks a better chance to education and training. Updating our electric and gas service will create immediate jobs for the construction skilled-trades and lay the framework for thousands more jobs in the near future. Co-locating utility infrastructure can maximize efficiency, minimize expense, and better protect the environment. All this work will be done here, in the 10th District, and can never be off-shored”.
- Social Welfare Programs: Mr Accavitti did not have a stance on this topic but the Democratic party platform stance is “Democrats will take steps to strengthen and expand the home care workforce, give seniors and people with disabilities access to quality, affordable long-term care, services, and supports, and ensure that all of these resources are readily available at home or in the community”.
