Ron Weiser (R)
In 2001 Weiser was appointed by President Bush as Ambassador to the Slovak Republic. Before becoming a U.S. Ambassador, Weiser served on the Boards of Directors of numerous non-profit organizations. As a Michigan Regent, Ron will run the U of M like a business.
U of M Budget:“Ron will work to establish responsible fiscal policies and trim the budget. He will ensure that students needs are the priority, not growing the bureaucracy. His 35 years of business experience as a successful entrepreneur and his accounting background will help the University save money that is wasted on bureaucratic excess.”
Tuition:”Ron will ensure that Michigan students and families reap the benefits of responsible budgets and fiscal policies. Ron will work to not only slow the rate of tuition increase, but will fight everyday to reduce tuition for in-state students
Equality: “Ron understands that living in Ann Arbor is not affordable for many students. He believes that students who attend the UofM Flint and Dearborn campuses should have access to the same classes, professors, rights and privileges as their counterparts at the UofM Ann Arbor. Regardless of which campus they graduate from, their degree should simply read “‘University of Michigan.’”
Budget:”Ron believes that the Regents are responsible to the people of Michigan. He will push to have the University post the budget online and adhere to the Open Meetings Act. This transparency will further accountability to Michigan taxpayers.”
