“My belief is that every Michigan citizen is entitled to an education that provides them with the ability to be productive members of society in whatever field or occupation they choose. I appreciate school of choice as a means of allowing parents to choose an educational environment that works for their specific child. However, I do want to make certain that school of choice does not become a haves vs have-nots. Meaning that rich and affluent districts exclude children/students who are from less affluent or poorer areas. All in all I do believe that school of choice has more benefits than negatives. In Michigan the way in which school of choice is designed and implemented I am hopeful that the potential for exclusion based upon race, religion, financial or status is not occurring and it is simple based upon availability.” -Nicole Winston
